What is Personal Care Assistance?
Since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, many doors are opening for persons with severe disabilities to live completely independent lives.
Many persons with severe disabilities need assistance to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL). This assistance can be performed by a hired worker called a Personal Care Assistant (PCA).
Most persons with severe disabilities are capable of hiring and training their own PCA's to maintain independence. Independent Living is based on the philosophy that a person with a disability should be in control of the services that permit him/her to live independently.
